WSOP update: Day 1C comes to an end
July 6th 2008 08:18
As to be expected, Day 3 (or 1C) of the main event at the World Series of Poker was interesting for not just the play and who all climbed to the top, but who all climbed out.
I honeslty wish I could have seen a lot more of the action than I did, as this looked like some of the best poker yet. That hopefully means that Sunday will be superb.
Saturday's eliminated list is a small who’s who of poker. Huck Seed, TJ Cloutier, Daniel Aleai, Gavin Griffin, Mike Sexton, Mimi, Tran, Joe Tehan, JC Tran, Paul Darden, Marcel Luske, Tony G, David Plastik just to name a few.
But the leader is healthy. Henning Granstad has over 200,000 chips. You probably aren’t alone if you are wondering who that is. But make no mistake, Granstad is known name in poker circles. He only has two WSOP cashes, both coming this year, but has some cashes in some fairly big tournaments dating back to 2004.
It’s kind of a shamed, if not a surprise, that Clonie Gowen was never able to get much more from her early chip lead, and lost a big amount late in the day to go back to about 20000 chips.
Chris Moneymaker is here, and it looks like he survived Day 1 too, with about 60,000 chips! Mike the mouth Matusow is about 10000 less than Moneymaker at about 50000. Sammy Farha has struggled since early in the day and is back to near 30000.
Joe Hachem and Jane Gold both ended the day on the lower end, around 20000 and John Juanda will be looking for better luck on Day 2 with about 12000 in chips.
And as for the numbers: 1,928 on Saturday to make it 4,383 so far. Looks like Sunday will get it above 6,000 total entries again.
