Wimbledon Ladies’ Day 1 – Results
The biggest surprise on the ladies’ side of things on day one was Australian Casey Dellacqua who upset #12 seed Patty Schnyder in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Close to that was how hard a time #4 Svetlana Kuznetsova had in beating Mathilde Johansson of France. Kuznetsova lost the first set in a tie-break, then eeked out the second set win 7-5, and finished off with a 6-3 third set. Much too big a scare for the #4 seed n the first round at Wimbledon.
World #1 Ana Ivanovic had little trouble in her first round match with Rossana De los rios of Paraguay, dispatching her with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
