Did They Change Wimbledon to Clay?
There is just one American male advancing into the Third Round of Wimbledon, he is no, not Andy Roddick, James Blake, or even Robby Ginepri, it is Bobby Reynolds. With the rate that the American men have dropped from Wimbledon one might think they were actually playing on clay instead of grass.
I may have to actually start putting my money where my fingers are and betting on some of the picks I am making, truly! If you check my Day 4 Schedule post you will see what I mean. Now, I didn’t outright say that Roddick would lose, nor Sharapova, but you will see that I said there was a real possibility of them losing. I also picked Maria jose Martinez Sanchez to upset #32 Sania Mirza, which she did. Granted I did also say Brit Chris Eaton would beat #25 Russian Dmitry Tursunov, and that the Ladies’ doubles match involving the Brits would end differently, but no one can get them all right. I am actually shocked I have gotten as many picks right as I have. Enough about that though.
Janko Tipsarevic might not be the #2 ranked male Serb for long! He upset #6 Andy Roddick in a rather good match. It lasted four sets, and included two tie-breaks with Janko winning the last three sets.
As I said above World #221 Chris Eaton of England has his 2008 Wimbledon put to an end by #25 Tursunov in straight sets. This just means that the rowdy Brit fans can concentrate on supporting Andy Murray in his march towards a match with Rafa.
The German’s had a good day in England. Rainer Schuettler took James Blake past his limits and ousted the American in five sets. In the battle of Tommies, Tommy Haas defeated Spain’s #23 Tommy Robredo in straight sets to move on and face Murray. #27 seeded Nicolas Kiefer also won in straight sets against Martin Vassallo Arguello of Aregentina to decide who Nadal’s next victim would be.
Nadal’s match with Ernests Gulbis was also a good one. Gulbis started off fast winning the first set 7-5. Rafa came back quick to win the second set 6-2. They would need a tie-break to decide set three, with Nadal winning it 7-2. Nadal then finished strong in the fourth set 6-3.

Can't believe that Blake would lose to Schuettler!
Tursonov has tons of talent, but a bit fragile mentally. Has too much 'fun' on the tour.
Would love to see Gasquet go much deeper. Less pressure (no pressure really) on grass compared to the clay at home on Roland Garros. Can go alright at Wimbledon and made a semi (beating Roddick in quarters) losing to Federer in 2007. The best backhand around. But not sure what's going on in his head at present, has had some surprise early round exits.
I'm still hoping for Roger and Ana - but maybe it's time for Rafa.
Keep up the good tipping.
