Wimbledon Day 4 Schedule

Andy Murray image
Just how far can Andy Murray get in England?

Taking Centre Court on day four are Americans Venus Williams and Andy Roddick, as well as home-country favorite Andy Murray. All three should advance somewhat easily. If someone is going to have a bit of trouble it will probably be Andy Roddick against the #2 Serbian male Janko Tipsarevic. He just might be good enough to advance, but probably still needs another year or so before he can stick around until the later rounds.

Court 1 today is full of what should be some interesting matches. First up is Rafa Nadal vs. Ernests Gulbis. It should be fun to watch, but Rafa should control most of the match. Next up will be another battle of Russian women, Maria Sharapova vs. Alla Kudreyavtseva. Sharapova should win easily, but as we saw in France when the Russian women face one another anything can happen. The third match on the court should be very loud with upstart Brit Chris Eaton facing #25 Dmitry Tursunov. With the crowd pulling for him I do believe Eaton can pull off one more win.

Americans Lindsay Davenport and James Blake will go out second and third on Court 3. I know I don’t talk about doubles matches much, but there is one that would be fun to watch on Court 5 today. It will be the #13 seeded team of American Bethanie Mattek and India’s Sania Mirza vs. the English team of Elena Baltacha and Naomi Cavaday. This too should be a really loud match with the home-country factor, and yes I am picking the Brits to get passed the #13 team. This pick also takes into account that Mirza plays an early singles match against Maria Jose Martinez sanchez of Spain who likes to pull off the upsets, which I think she will do against #32 Mirza also.

One other doubles match worth mentioning is the one on Court 18 between The Williams Sisters, and Agnieszka Rawanska and her now teammate Marta Domachowska. On Wednesday the latter two faced off in singles competition with Radwanska winning, and Serena ousted Agnieszka’s sister Urszula. None of that has to do with this match, but still it should be interesting.

Back to singles matches of interest. . .

This first one is probably of interest only to me, and only because of the names as I stated a couple days ago. Caroline Wozniacki DEN (32) vs. Aleksandra Wozniak CAN. They should let John McEnroe and Martina come over to ESPN to call this match. Now that I would love to see!

Finally, Elena Dementieva will have to play for the second straight day which could slowe her down a little. She does go out third on Court 11 so she has a chance to sleep in a bit if she wants to. I still think she will roll past Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland.
