Wimbledon Day 3 Schedule

Marat Safin image
Can Marat Safin pull off the upset of #3 Novak Djokovic? I THINK so!

Taking Centre Court on Day 3 in England we have Novak Djokovic in the early match facing Marat Safin. This could be the match of the day. I think Safin can give Djokovic a run for his money, and I am leaning toward Safin getting the upset. After that match will be Svetlana Kuznetsova, and then Roger Federer in the later match.

#1 Ana Ivanovic will be playing the early match on Court 1, followed by Marco Baghdatis. Court 2 will feature Brit Elena Baltacha in the early match, followed by Lleyton Hewitt, and Serena Williams.

In the second match of the day on Court 17, #5 Elena Dementieva will play Maria Elena Camerin in the final Round 1 match. Camerin should hope her match is over quickly, as she plays in one of the many doubles matches of the day on Court 4. It is the fourth match on the court so she should have lots of rest time in between.

Safin winning would be the only surprise I foresee possibly happening today.

If ever we required an example of climate change affecting conditions on this planet, we were given one with Marat Safin (Grass is only for cows!!) defeating a 3rd seeded player on grass (grass!!) at Wimbledon. Maybe grass ain't grass any more??

Still, it is only the early rounds...

I've always loved Marat's game - but he has proven hopeless on grass (embarrassingly so) on every (other!) occasion.

Actually that was a great selection. Never checked the betting, but I'm guessing he was very good odds. I have managed junior tennis teams to win State Championships - horses and tennis are two great passions. I gave Marat as much chance of winning last night as I gave Dominic Hbarty (another hardcourt player) who played exactly to form against Federer.

I didn't give Elena Dementia any chance (same reason as Marat...love her game too...but not a grasscourt player) to progress very far at Wimbledon...but that crystal ball of yours has me thinking you may be channeling a tennis God. Must check her odds for the final.

I hope you had a bet on Marat. That prediction deserved reward. Well done.

I certainly wish I did have money on him, but alas I did not. Hmm, wonder what the odds on Nadal to win it all are.
