Wimbledon Day 12 Schedule – Ladies’ Finals
Due to something coming up I won’t be able to preview the Williams – Williams match like I had hope to, but here we go with the very abbreviated version.
Serena and Venus Williams will take Centre Court not once, but twice today. They open the day facing one another in the Ladies’ Singles Finals. It is the third time they have faced in a Wimbledon Final. Serena has won both earlier match ups at the All England Club. Under much scrutiny and discussion of how someone in the family, probably their father, makes a decision on who will win their head to head matches they head to a finals where I believe Serena will win yet again. I will say it will take three sets, and not be the most exciting match of the fortnight.
After their singles match will be the Gentlemen’s Doubles Finals match between the #8 seeded team of Jonas Bjorkman of Sweeden & Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe, and the #2 seeded team of Canadian Daniel Nestor & Serb Nenad Zimonjic. I am picking Nestor – Zimonjic to win in straight sets.
The Williams sisters then get over one of them having to lose the singles final to form the #11 seeded team in the Ladies’ Doubles Finals match against #16 seeded team of American Lisa Raymond & Australian Samantha Stosur. I am picking the Williams sisters to also win this title, barring any sort of injury to either of them in their singles match. I will say it will also end in straight sets.
There are also a dwindling number of other matches on the slate for day 12, including the Girls Singles Finals between unseeded Laura Robson of Great Britain, and #3 seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand. I do not know a lot about this match up, but I will pick Noppawan Lertcheewakarn to win, on her name alone.
There are many Aussies on the schedule too, highlighted by the team of Todd Woodbridge & Mark Woodforde facing off in the Gentlemen’s Inv. Doubles with Americans Donald Johnson & Jared Palmer.
