Wimbledon Day 10 Schedule – Ladies’ Semi-Finals
According to this schedule direct from Wimbledon the early match on Centre Court is the Elena Dementieva – Venus Williams, followed by the Jie Zheng – Serena Williams match. ESPN2 commercials have it slated in the opposite order. So if for some reason you only want to see one of the two matches, make sure you check in early to see which one starts first.
The remaining Gentlemen’s Quarter-Finals match between Rainer Schuettler and Arnaud Clement will be the early match on Court 1 and play to a finish. It is currently tied at one set a piece, 6-3, 5-7.
I have liked Elena Dementieva’s chances from the very start. Even I have waivered a bit after seeing how Venus Williams has played for the last ten days. Every expert everywhere is picking an all Williams final match. Venus’s record against Elena would also point to that outcome, she has beaten her five times in the seven matches they have played. Dementieva downed Serena in the finals of the Kremlin Cup this past October, I am sure that experience will help at least a little today against Venus.
Jie Zheng, the first Chinese player to make it to the Semis at the All England Club, and just the second qualifier to ever make the semis in a Grand Slam event will have to get through Serena if she wants to extend her stay in England. Serena has been just about flawless thus far, and hopes to get through and face her sister in the finals on Saturday.
As I have said, all the experts are picking Venus vs. Serena. While that would be a great match to see again, I don’t agree with the experts. I actually think both Dementieva and Zheng CAN get it done and meet in the Finals. I still think Dementieva WILL make the finals in a tough match that she just barely eeks out over Venus. I am not convinced that Zheng WILL do the same. So, what I am saying is, Dementieva and Zheng win! However, that might be too bold a prediction, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we wind up with a Dementieva – Williams final. Both matches will go three sets regardless of who wins, and will be close, and extremely fun to watch.

I was writing another comment for you as you posted this (got my answer)...
I hope you are right. Both Dementieva & Zheng have a charm that would make a final more interesting than a Williams/Williams. But I have always like Venus...
Good to see Andrew Thomas in a boys' singles quarter final. Seen a bit of him at local pennant level & junior competition.

I certainly do hope at least Dementieva gets it done today. Her serve is so shaky sometimes. she definitely needs to avoid a meltdown like she had in the quarters, and in Paris against Safina.
I really do wish I had put some money on them at the start. I didn't even think about it at the time, cause I am far from an expert on tennis. Although at the moment I look a little like a tennis Rainman of sorts. i am sure I just got lucky. We'll see how these two underdog picks going through to the finals turns out.

I think Venus will be the one to take out the championship this year.
