U.S. Open Day 12 Schedule & Preview – 9-5-08
The Women’s Semi-Finals take Center Court today, but not before the Men’s doubles Finals which starts at 11AM ET.
No. 2 Seeded American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan face off against the No. 7 seeded team of Czech Lukas Dlouhy & India’s Leander Paes. I do believe the Bryan brothers should win this match, but not until after an extra set.
Next up is No. 5 Elena Dementieva vs. No. 2 Jelena Jankovic. This should be a very fun match to watch. I think the Gold Medalist Russian will come away with the upset win of the Serb as Jankovic has yet another letdown.
After that match concludes the other Women’s Semis match will take place between Silver Medalist Russian, No. 6 seed Dinara Safina looking to achieve something her brother has already done, and No. 4 seed Serena Williams. This too promises to be a great match to watch. I see Safina outlasting Serena who seemed to looked tired in the win over her sister the other day. This will setup another all Russian final.
Other matches of note today:
On Court 7 some time after 11AM ET the Women’s Singles Champions match between Martina Navratilova and Jana Novotna will take place. I a certainly hoping this one is televised somewhere. I pick Martina to win in a good match.
On Court 11 some time after 12:30 PM ET the Women’s Doubles Semi-Finals will start. The No. 1 seeded team of Zimbabwe’s Cara Black & American Liezel Huber will face off against the No. 5 seeded Spanish team of Anabel Medina Garriques & Virginia Ruano Pascual. I think Black & Huber win, but it will take a tie-break or two.
Later in the day on Court 11 will be the Men’s Singles Champions match between American Todd Martin and Australian Pat Cash. I am not sure what happened with yesterdays schedule that got the one match wrong, but I am picking Cash to win this match too.
