Seahawks Acquire Balmer
August 17th 2010 13:41
Former and under-performing first round pick Kentwan Balmer took off two days due to issues concerning his personal life. It's nothing bad. Anyway, he has been AWOL since last Wednesday.
The San Francisco 49ers traded the defensive tackle to a division rival. More specifically, that rival is the Seattle Seahawks. Balmer is actually a huge 49ers fan. The man that drafted Balmer- Scot McCloughan - works for the Seahawks. I guess he sees something special in Kentwan. All the Hawks gave up was a lowly sixth round pick. That's a very good move to take a risk on Balmer.
The Seahawks needed the depth at that position after losing Darryl Tapp. He won't start, but he is a better backup than both of the others on the roster. Especially Craig Terrill.
The Chicago Bears are hunting for a veteran backup, in case anything happens to Jay Cutler. I guess that shows how much faith they have in rookie Dan LeFevour. Regular backup Caleb Hanie is horrible and he has a shoulder injury anyway. The injury is the main reason that the Bears are scouring for a new face.
The Bears tried to convince Trent Green to come out of retirement. Green would love to, but he knows the right decision is to stay as a broadcaster. Todd Collins and Damon Huard were also talked to. Both of them have been successful backups for a long time.
Dez Bryant wants to play in a preseason game on August 28th against the Texans. However, on July 30th he had a high ankled sprain. Bryant feels he is over it, but Jerry Jones wants to assess the risks and be very cautious. Jones also said that the game doesn't count in the standings. That is an extremely smart move, yet obvious. But then again, it is a move that some teams like the Nationals do not make.
Larry Fitzgerald sprained his knee, but is expected to be ready for game one of the season.
