Revis Garbage Over
September 6th 2010 15:18
Darrelle Revis's holdout did not last past week one of the regular season, as expected by many people. The Jets really weren't that serious about being stiff and not letting Revis get money. They just wanted us to think that. He gets a four year 46 million dollar deal which makes him slightly overpaid, but he will probably earn that salary by the end of the season.
The New York Jets also released star lead-blocker Tony Richardson and young receiver David Clowney. Both moves hurt the team slightly, but we are talking about slightly. The Jets are still the favorites to win that division.
The Arizona Cardinals couldn't find any takers for Matt Leinart- ha, like they ever could- so they released the overpaid quarterback. Can you believe that Matt Leinart makes more money than DeAngelo Williams? Yeah, that's crazy. I am convinced that Derek Anderson and John Skelton are both better quarterbacks. At least we saw Anderson do a good job for a full season. Heck, I haven't seen Leinart do a good job during an entire game.
J.T. O'Sullivan was released by the Bengals. The backup was dropped in favor of a younger and more talented backup in Dan LeFevour. Dan won't be a starter in the NFL, but he has more upside than O'Sullivan and will ultimately serve as a capable backup in the league.
If you didn't hear about this trade, then you missed some giant news.Former star safety Reggie Nelson was traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Cincinnati Bengals. This move makes the Bengals secondary one of the best in the league. They traded cornerback David Jones and a draft pick. David Jones stinks, so the draft pick would have to be over round six for it to be a fair deal.
Even though Nelson is coming of an ACL injury, he is still young and is a proven star. It is worth the risk especially because Gibril Wilson had a season ending injury. The Bengals have quality safeties in Chris Crocker and Roy Williams. They also possess the second best cornerback duo in the league, Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph.
The Buffalo Bills added tight end David Martin to add a mediocre player to their horrible list of tight ends. The Detroit Lions signed wide receiver Stefan Logan to add depth at a position that always needs depth. For the Lions, this was an important move to make seeing as they had only four available receivers to choose from before the signing of Logan. Granted, Stefan isn't a good football player; but he is decent as a depth guy.
The Denver Broncos added rookie Andre Brown to try and ease the pain of the injuries to star running back Knowshon Moreno and solid rusher Correll Buckhalter. Brown has good upside and is better than third stringer Lance Ball. (Picture from NYPost)
