New Era In Green Bay
September 3rd 2009 17:20
It was only two years ago that the Green Bay Packers were one game away from the Super Bowl. What followed was nothing but a total headache. Once the Brett Favre soup opera had passed the spotlight was on one Aaron Rodgers.
All he did was throw for 4038 yards and 28 touchdowns. Not bad for someone taking over for a legend. He led the eighth best offense in the league. He has returning weapons Donald driver, Greg Jennings, and Donald Lee. From how they have played in the Preseason they should pick up right where they left off. Now the defensive side is a different story.
This time around things are sure to be extremely different. The biggest reason why? The addition of Dom Capers as defensive coordinator. He has a knack of turning around teams in one year.
He has his hands full with this bunch who were ranked 20 in the league in total defense. The team has now switched to a much more aggressive 3-4 defense, which should allow guys like Aaron Kampman, Nick Barnett, and rookie B.J. Raji to really shine and become a force in the league.
Sadly former first round pick A.J. Hawk has gotten fewer snaps and may only play with the third team nickel package. He is still listed first in the depth chart as inside linebacker but he’s gonna have to work hard to keep that position. Being the 5th overall pick in the 2006 draft, he hasn’t lived up to the first round expectations.
