Flyers survive for now

May 16th 2008 06:38
Like the Stars did the night before, the Philadelphia Flyers saved their season Thursday night with a 4-2 win in their NHL playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Ultimately, this was just a small bump on the road to the inevitable Stanley Cup Final between the Penguins and Red Wings.

Both series are off today, but hockey fans will get their full share on the weekend when the Red Wings end the Stars season on Saturday and the Penguins finish off the Flyers on Sunday.

We almost feel for Philadelphia though. This was probably the best chance for the city to get the championship they have been yearning for. No major sports team has won a championship there since 1983, when the NBA's 76ers

beat the Lakers in the NBA Finals.
The 76ers don't look like they will be close to another anytime soon, baseball's Philadelphia Phillies look really good right now, but it's too early to really tell if they have what it takes to be a World Series contender and the NFL's Eagles didn't really give fans much to cheer about last year, but in the wacky NFL world, who knows what's ahead.

But the Philly fans can cheer the Philadelphia Soul who, up until last weekend, had the best record in the Arena Football League. They'll make the playoffs and be a serious contender for the title.

Okay maybe indoor football isn't a major sport, but it's a fun game to watch. I'd seriously suggest anyone who has never had the chance, to find an arena/indoor football team and attend a game. It really is fan friendly football.
