Although the Jets are 4-3, it feels like they are doing a whole lot worse when you look at their actual performances. The Buffalo Bills have been this season's surprise story thanks to a much better than expected offense. The main reason for this sudden offensive outburst is the revival of a once-awful offensive line that has turned itself around to be one of the top units the league this year. Led by a stunning season by left guard Andy Levitre, this line has given Ryan Fitzpatrick all the time in the world and is finally providing some much-needed push for stud back Fred Jackson.

Nick Mangold is finally back after rag doll Colin Baxter proceeded to suck things up as a run blocker (though he did provide some huge value in pass pro). Brandon Moore has been a surprise this season, but not in a good way. One of the best guards in the league, Moore has digressed this season to the "very mediocre" range of play. He will be matched up, for the most part, against explosive rookie Marcell Dareus in this game.

The interesting thing about Dareus is that he was always solid this season, but he turned up the heat in his last two games and put forth two of the best performances by a defensive tackle this season. Forget the criminally underrated Kyle Williams; it's the Dareus show in Buffalo now. The Jets will be soon acquainted with the the real "Hard Knock Life".

I really hate the Jets offense right now, and the listing of Plaxico Burress as the team's number one receiver over incumbent Santonio Holmes sums it up; stupidity. This offense squanders around and doesn't do crap, and that Mark Sanchez guy- as clutch as he is- doesn't put his team in the position to actually have a clutch anyway. He wilts under pressure, he has no arm, and he'll make stupid decisions too. Yeah, the guy has the whole package.

However, it isn't really all Sanchez's fault. Shonn Greene is subpar, and I have totally given up on him as a starting-caliber NFL running back. Nick Barnett and Kirk Morrison are two of the better linebackers against the run in the NFL, and they will eat this guy alive.

I think that's pretty much most of the pessimistic comments directed at the Jets, because they still have a nice D (read: Darrelle Revis is freaking awesome).

Fred Jackson is one of the best ten backs in the NFL, because he does everything extremely well. Not only is he a great pure runner with his elusiveness, but he can catch and is one of the best pass blocking backs in the league. However, he will face a huge challenge against the Jets in this game (the same can be said for his line). Sione Pouha and Mike DeVito are two of the best defensive linemen against the run in the NFL, and Pouha has ripped apart far better linemen than the ones that he is prepared to face today. And oh by the way, those linebackers are pretty tough to get by too.

The good thing- for the offensive line- is that the Jets have very poor pass rushers. Thus, Fitzpatrick should continue to have time to test the Jets secondary. Which means, everybody except Revis (if he's smart).

There is no more valuable defensive player in the league than Revis, because he is the reason why the Jets can blitz defensive backs and do all the crazy stuff that they do. Revis has given up the least amount of receiving yards, and he has had more tips/picks than catches allowed.

This lavish praise of Revis is actually pertinent to his game, because the Bills offense is one-dimensional receiving-wise. Everybody knows that Fitz is going to try to hit Stevie Johnson as much as he can, but Revis can easily take him out. This leaves David Nelson to be contained by Cromartie and whoever else has him guarded.

This is going to be a low-scoring contest, and it's the Jets utter offensive incompetence that makes the Bills go 6-2, instead of tying them up at 5-3. It seems hard to believe, well, to everybody but me. Look, the Jets stink because their offense has been horrible for such a long time. Revis and the defense will once again be the only guys keeping this game close. This is going to be one heckuva ballgame, and Revis will be the MVP, regardless of who wins.

8/27 NFL Rumors and News: Kyle Williams extended

I honestly think that Kyle Williams is the best defensive tackle in the game, and he is one of the the most underrated players in football. He's the Bills' best player, and they rewarded him by giving Williams a 6-year extension worth 39 million. Even though it is technically a reward, the deal is very cheap for the Bills. Williams is one of the best defensive players in the game, and to lock him up over the span of 6 seasons for 6.5 million per season is a terrific move.

"Meatball" was absolutely monstrous last season, and he should have been the Defensive Player of the Year. Of course, nobody gives that award to defensive tackles, but Williams should have at least been on the Pro Bowl squad. Even though the players around him are terrible, that doesn't mean that Williams shouldn't get recognized for the work he does. If you go back to the Bills' very interesting game against the Steelers, Kyle Williams was murdering Maurkice Pouncey. He showed all that he is capable of by consistently disrupting plays in the backfield, blowing up rushing lanes, drawing double-teams, collapsing the pocket, and pressuring the quarterback. Trust me, this guy more than deserved this pay check.

It was always pretty obvious to me that Chris Johnson wasn't going anywhere, because nobody in their right mind would trade their best player and only offensive star. Heck, CJ might be the Titans' only star player on the roster. In any case, losing Johnson would really hurt the Titans as a team and as an organization. The fan base would be enraged, and the team would lose respect. While I think that Chris Johnson's holdout is ridiculous, he doesn't deserve the money he wants, the Titans should pay him more than he is receiving right now.

The whole shelf-life ideal for running backs is like that weird guy from Star Wars lightsaber; it has two sides to it and can be tricky. Running backs don't last long in this league, so it's natural for the Titans to be cautious with this situation. However, Johnson needs to get paid in full now if his career really won't last that long (which is sad but true). CJ needs to make sure that he at least gets the money he deserves for what should be a good career, and the Titans should reward him accordingly. I think nine to ten million per year is fair enough, and Johnson really needs to lower that outrageous asking price.

Another star running back on a poor team is requesting a holdout, but this one is definitely less-publicized. Frank Gore- as well as Chris Johnson- want DeAngelo Williams money. The contracts that get thrown out there skew the market and jack up contracts, so we have Carolina to thank for what was an awful deal. Williams is a great running back, but 5 years and 43 million is ridiculous for a 27 year old. In any case, Gore needs to just stay put and take his five million a year. It's not like he's always healthy to begin with.

2011 First Round Draft Notes

I can't say that I'm happy, but I'll have to give Cam Newton a chance. I didn't want the Panthers to take him at number one, but I don't want him to bust now that he's "the guy" for my favorite team. I wish the Panthers took a Marcell Dareus or A.J. Green and give Clausen and Moore another shot. After all, it is rare that a QB does well after just one year. It takes time. Smart teams like the Bucs wait three years for their QB, and the Bucs were rewarded when Josh Freeman had the year he had last season.

Newton is one of my least favorite players already, but I can't deny his athleticism. I just wish he had better footwork and was a better person. Jake Locker deserved to be picked at number eight by the Titans. He was high on their board, fits their system well, and he wasn't a reach. There are plenty of unintelligent people that dropped Locker from the first choice over Sam Bradford the year before, to somebody values in the late teens. And why? Well, that's because suddenly mystifying accuracy problems arose. This happens when those said unintelligent "experts" read stats- meaningless in college football- like completion percentage and don't watch what actually happened. Locker's receivers were terrible, and he was almost always under pressure due to an incompetent line.

Christian Ponder was a reach at 12, but the Vikings couldn't risk waiting too long. They made a smart choice because if you think that QB can be the guy, then by all means take him. Bill Musgrave wants to instill a WCO, and Ponder is the most accurate QB in the draft and best suited for the West Coast Offense. Ponder is an early second round talent and would have been most likely off the board by the time the Vikings would pick again.

I don't like the Saints' idea to trade up to the first round to select Mark Ingram. You should never do that for a running back. The Patriots accepted the basically free second round choice, and they own the top pick in the second round thanks to another horrible draft-day trade by Carolina the year before. That pick is a highly coveted one, but the Pats should keep the first of their three second round choices to select Da'Quan Bowers. He's far too talented to pass up on, and he is a first-round talent. The Pats could use a pass rusher like Bowers.

The Falcons did a nice job in trading up to get Julio Jones at number six. They knew that they desperately needed a playmaking receiver, and the choices after Jones were all developmental projects. It wasn't a reach because a lot of teams near that pick also looked like they really wanted one of only two top receiving prospects. The other guys are all boom-or-bust players or sleepers. The Falcons got their man.

Von Miller will be a good pass rusher in this league, but he is awfully similar to a great pass rusher the Broncos already have; Elvis Dumervil. I would have taken Marcell Dareus in that spot, because the Broncos start the poor Kevin Vickerson at defensive tackle. The Bills gladly picked up Dareus, and he will form a great defensive line duo with Kyle Williams.

I thought Aldon Smith was taken too high. Smith has a lot of upside, but the 49ers would have been better off drafting Robert Quinn and then re-signing Manny Lawson. Quinn and Fairley took big drops, and the teams that took them pounced on both top prospects on the D-Line. While the Rams and Lions are set on the line and have needs elsewhere, they took the best guys available and acquired two elite prospects outside of the top ten.

Prince Amukamara also took a huge plunge, and the Giants finally have a coverage corner. Terrell Thomas is solid, but he's a physical corner that mainly stops the run. Thomas isn't really a coverage player. Aaron Ross and Corey Webster are poor corners, so Amukamara will greatly boost a secondary that just couldn't cover. I love his instincts.
