Don Nelson Fired; Gentry Getting Love
September 24th 2010 14:21
Assistant coach Keith Smart was named head coach after the firing of All-Time great Don Nelson who has lost his greatness. This was a great decision by the Golden State Warriors organization. Nelson may be the coach with the most wins in history, but he wasn't getting results. The Warriors were constantly under performing, and Nelson's motivational ploys were coming up with hideous results.
The new owner Joe Lacob did not like Don's style of coaching either. Nelson is actually very happy because he gets to take his money and leave. The former Warriors coach is expected to retire.
One of my favorite coaches in sports, Alvin Gentry, was extended through 2013. After stupidly firing Steve Kerr, this move is the only smart coaching move the Suns have made in a while. Gentry has done an incredible job in developing players like Channing Frye and Jared Dudley into their full potential. Scratch that. Gentry can make their ceilings higher than they once were. This extension, to me, was a no-brainer.
Current Pistons owner Karen Richardson thinks that the team will be sold before the regular season.
Twenty teams inquired about, you guessed it, Carmelo Anthony. If there is a third team deal as stated in the last post, then the 76ers will probably be in it. The Sixers have been an extremely busy team this offseason as well as the Heat; obviously. Miami, Chicago, New York, and New Jersey are considered the four favorites in the Melo sweepstakes. The sweepstake may not even be sweet at all. Any team interested will overpay and realize their stupid mistake later on.
