Lebron vs. the team
May 18th 2008 07:46
Okay, so the Cavaliers win Game 6, forcing Game 7 today. Well, although we predicted the Game 6 end, we really aren’t too surprised. The Celtics just haven’t played that great on the road this playoff season.
But the conference semifinals of NBA playoffs this season have been all about the home team. If the Celtics win today and the Spurs win tomorrow, the home team will have won every game in both of those series. The Celtics beat Atlanta 4-3 in the first round where the home team won every game.
Odd considering that prior to this year, the last time any NBA playoff series saw the home team win ever game was a 2004 series where the Miami Heat beat the New Orleans Hornets.
Again, today’s game will basically come down to LeBron James vs. the team. LeBron is averaging 26.8 points per game in the playoffs. Second best on the team is Zydrunas Ilgauskas at 13.5. Meanwhile the Celtics Kevin Garnett is averaging 20.8 points per game and Paul Pierce 17 and Ray Allen 13.4. Compare that and give the Celtics the home court, it shouldn’t be close. That doesn’t mean it won’t be, it just shouldn’t be. But the Celtics keep their home dominance alive.
But now we don’t see the San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Hornets series staying with the home pattern. The Spurs absolute dominance on Thursday suggests that they are finally inside the Hornets’ heads and have figured out what they have to do to defend their title. We still think this will be one of the best games of the playoffs to watch, but we can now see the Spurs prevailing but I know this much, I wouldn’t have to bet my life savings on this game.
