Men Of Troy Invade The Horse Shoe

September 8th 2009 23:01
These are the games that make college football so exciting. I like it even better that’s its so early in the season. I just hope that it lives up to the hype as number 3 USC goes to Columbus to take on number 8 Ohio St.

Right of the bat if the buckeyes are gonna stand a chance and not get blown out like last year there defense better tighten up and get a game plan ready to slow down the USC offense. The Ohio St defense allowed 342 yards on the ground and in the air to Navy last week.

Its gonna come down to Terrelle Pryor getting the ball moving and not turning it over. Its time to see how much the kid has grown from the spanking he got last year.

Matt Barkley had his day in the sun last week but now comes his first challenge as the man at USC. He needs to prove that he can win the big games on the road. He’s a got a couple more coming up so it’s time to step up and make the Trojans a national championship contender.

With the way both the Big – 10 and Pac-10 look so weak compared to the other conferances this is a must win for both teams.

Well, here is a copy of my post from earlier today

Well it is a very busy Sunday starting right now.

It will all begin with the opening of the Tennis French Open in minutes. Later today the battle at the Brickyard begins with Helio Castoneves leading the drivers from the pole. Then tonight under the lights at Lowe's Motor Speedway is the Coca-Cola 600, a long and grueling race that will probably include some rain delays.

My Picks:

Even though it isn't a shock in the first round - I pick Rafa Nadal. I can't wait to see who gets to face him in the finals next week. Can anyone stop him from winning his fifth title in a row at Roland Garros?

Also I think Safina will defend her #1 world ranking fiercely. Can she finally win that major title? I think she can, and where better than on the clay.

I am picking Castroneves to kiss the bricks for a third time. However I think Ryan Hunter Reay might have a chance, and Danica winning would be so huge.

As for NASCAR - I think Stewart-Haas Racing will score a win in a points race for the first time. I am thinking it will be Ryan Newman also from the pole, like Castroneves. However, Tony Stewart should be there fighting for the lead late. Other than that, as always you have to watch the other cars with those Hendrick motors in them.

For full details on all of those events and more please Click Here

In other events today:

Cleveland Cavaliers will win to take 2-1 series lead.
Detroit Red Wings will win to take 3-1 series lead.
MLB Inter-League Play:
Winners: Detroit, Yankees, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Boston, White Sox, Washington, Texas, St. Louis, Oakland, Cubs, Seattle, Dodgers, and Milwaukee

Let's also predict that Joel Pineiro will top both of the Card's previous two pitching gems. Todd Wellemeyer and the bullpen threw a five hitter on Friday, then Kyle Lohse and Chris Perez combined for another five hitter Saturday. I think Pineiro will toss a complete game shutout while giving up 3 or fewer hits.

---------------------
The Results:

Rafa and Safina actually didn't have a match today, but they both take center stage starting at 11AM local Paris time (4AM CT US).

As for the Indy 500, Helio Castroneves did indeed win for the third time to cap off an amazing return to racing after his tax evasion trial from just a couple weeks ago.
Click Here for full race details.

The Coca-Cola 600 was delayed due to rain. It is rescheduled for tomorrow. FOX coverage begins at Noon ET.

The Magic actually defeated the Cavaliers 99-89 on the strength of 24 points from Dwight Howard. The Magic lead the series 2-1.

The Red Wings blew out the Blackhawks 6-1 to put Chicago on the brink of elimination.

In a minute you will see the reason I stopped betting on Major League Baseball. Out of all my baseball picks here are the ones I got correct.
Washington, Texas, Oakland, and Seattle - the other 11 games I picked wrong.

Joel Pineiro's pitching outing was not so good. He gave up 3 earned runs on 8 hits and got the loss in the Cardinals 3-1 loss against the Royals.

So onto tomorrow we go. I am stil picking the Nuggets to win over the Lakers, to Natalina's shagrin. I am more curious to see where the game will be played. For those that don't know the Nuggets arena was leased out to the WWE for their Monday Night RAW event months ago. They didn't actually expect the team to make the playoffs and advance to the second round. So up until Thursday (the last time I checked) tickets were being sold for both events for Monday night. According to my DirecTV listing Raw says it will be from either the Staples Center in L.A. or the Pepsi Arena in Denver. If they talked Vince McMahon into moving to L.A. you can be sure it cost them a tidy little sum to get the deal done.

My picks for the Coca-Cola 600 remain intact. However, the entire race will be different due to running in the daytime. In the daytime I think Kasey Khane might have a bit more of a chance. Also this could be a huge plus for Jimmie Johnson. He and his team always adjust well during a race, and that is what everyone is going to need to do in the longest race on the NASCAR schedule in the heat of the day.

We will leave the baseball picks to Peter Gammons this time.

My picks for this weekend . . .

Let the Madness Begin!

Basketball on a rim

2009 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball March Madness Tournament

The brackets are now filled. There are a few surprises, and even more that was not surprising. The biggest thing that is NOT a surprise the system is flawed and favors the "power conferences".

The top conferences were:

7 teams - ACC, Big East, and Big Ten

6 teams - Big 12, Pac 10

Some of the bubbles that got burst were; San Diego State, Saint Mary's, Creighton, Virginia Tech, and Penn State.

The Midwest will play the West, while the East will play the South.

Midwest Region

1 - Louisville (Overall #1)
16 - Alabama State / Moorehead State

A Special Rant on LeBron James coverage

November 22nd 2008 20:08
This isn't going to be an attack on LeBron James but more so on the media. It seems you can't go five minutes without the talk of him leaving the Cavs in 2010. Well, my take is why is it being discussed now? Do they hate the Cavs that much? I'm starting to actually think that. Right now the Cavs are in the season playing to attempt to do the impossible and all the media wants to talk about is LeBron leaving Cleveland.

Now, there's something wrong with this picture. Is it me or does it seem like they want him out of Cleveland? I don't think they want to succeed there and become a champion in that city. If anything, it comes down wanting him in New York

Foul or Fisher?

May 29th 2008 07:53
Thanks for coming to the party San Antonio. Now it’s time to screw ya.

That’s basically what the NBA said Wednesday when it said a foul should have been called against the Lakers in the final second of the game against the Spurs on Tuesday

Spurs or Lakers

May 21st 2008 07:02
Of the last ten NBA finals, the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have been in eight of them, with the Spurs winning all four times they made it and the Lakers winning three of the four times they’ve been there.
But if history is any indication, the Lakers should win this series because the Spurs have never gone to back-to-back finals and the last time the two met in the Western Conference Finals, the Lakers swept 4-0.
But that’s the simple look at this series

Down to Final Four

May 20th 2008 09:37
It’s hard to say that Monday’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Hornets was as classic as I had expected. But it did kind of live up to the pattern of the series that the third quarter is the biggest key. The Spurs only outscored the Hornets by 6 in the quarter, but it was enough to give the Spurs a 15-point lead. Hornets cut it to 3 in the fourth, but they were done.

Spurs vs. Lakers, Celtics vs. Pistons. I think the Celtics-Pistons matchups was expected, and anticipated, but I think the Spurs are kid of surprising everyone by sticking around. It’s the heart of a champion

Celtics survive

May 19th 2008 08:57
The team won, but the player almost had it.
LeBron James had 45 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but in the end the Boston Celtics remained perfect at home in the playoffs, winning 97-92 in an NBA Eastern Conference semifinal.
Paul Pierce
Paul Pierce had 41 points for the Celtics on Sunday

Lebron vs. the team

May 18th 2008 07:46
Okay, so the Cavaliers win Game 6, forcing Game 7 today. Well, although we predicted the Game 6 end, we really aren’t too surprised. The Celtics just haven’t played that great on the road this playoff season.
But the conference semifinals of NBA playoffs this season have been all about the home team. If the Celtics win today and the Spurs win tomorrow, the home team will have won every game in both of those series. The Celtics beat Atlanta 4-3 in the first round where the home team won every game.
Odd considering that prior to this year, the last time any NBA playoff series saw the home team win ever game was a 2004 series where the Miami Heat beat the New Orleans Hornets

Flyers survive for now

May 16th 2008 06:38
Like the Stars did the night before, the Philadelphia Flyers saved their season Thursday night with a 4-2 win in their NHL playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Ultimately, this was just a small bump on the road to the inevitable Stanley Cup Final between the Penguins and Red Wings.

Hornets nest

May 14th 2008 08:44
David West was unreal. These days 38 points isn’t really much. But this was 38 points, against the defending NBA champions, in a playoff game. That performance put the Hornets up on the Spurs 3-2. Here’s the thing though. I don’t think this series is over yet. The Spurs are a good home team and they likely will have a better defensive plan to stop West, as Tony Parker didn’t seem to have much for him.
I somehow sense that in Game Six, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan will combine for 60 points and the Spurs will take a nice win.
If indeed the Spurs do win game six at home, forget about where Game 7 is. The New Orleans crowd will give it to the Spurs. But this is the defending NBA champions, and champions rise when tested
