Final Act.

February 24th 2010 03:11
Manny Ramirez

Entering his 17th season , Manny Ramirez has once again let his mouth cause some problems in the early stages of spring training. He has gone on record of saying that he won't be playing in Los Angeles next year, in fact he doesn't know where he will be playing at all.

As a Red Sox fan, I had to watch this wonderful act for 8 seasons. With that came some amazing moments and 2 championships, it did come with alot of headaches. Overall I Ioved every second of it.

I think Manny Ramirez is one of the best baseball players of all time and maybe the best hitter second only to Barry Bonds that I got to see in my generation. It just kinda sucks that people are going to forever judge him for being suspended 50 games and for being open about always getting paid his worth.

I'm personally gonna enjoy watching his career slowly come to a close. He turns 38 this year and hopefully we can see him play into his forties.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

Dustin Pedroia

Man i cannot wait for this season to get under way! Its been an up and down off season with the sox and we have alot of issues still to resolve as spring training gets under way and pitchers and catchers start showing up. Theo Epstein has done a great job putting together this group of players but I just hope this "bridge to the future" doesn't translate into
major rebuilding rather than a smooth transition into the future.

I think still think trading Mike lowell is a big mistake. He says he'll do whatever is best for the team so why not rotate him at first or DH? Is it that bad to keep such a valuable player on the team? Just look at Jason Varitek, he has settled in his new role with the team.

I wonder how long we are going to let J.D Drew stay in right field. Don't get me wrong I like him and the numbers he's put up but I think its time for a change. Let's see if Jeremy Hermida is ready to step after leaving the Florida Marlins, or if Josh Reddick is ready for the big time.

So far Josh Beckett has been quiet and is looking to be in great shape. The starting rotation needs him to be the anchor that he has proven to be. If Beckett, Dice-k, and Lackey can stay injury free theres not a doubt in my mind who haas the best rotation in baseball.

I hope Adrain Beltre can be somewhat productive this year. I don't mean to dog the guy already but he starts stinking at the plate I don't care how good he is at third he's gonna hear from the Fenway crowd.

I have this gut feeling this will be David Ortiz's last year in Boston. Who will be the next DH you ask? Uhmm Prince Fielder??? Thats another blog in its self I will get to later.

Time to step up

September 9th 2009 20:49
After all the up and downs the Red Sox starting rotation has gone through this year I sometimes lose focus on some of the amazing things that happen and that are so awesome for the future of the team. That one big bright spot is the maturing and outstanding play of starting pitcher Clay Buchholz.

He has certainly made the most of his opportunities this year and has kept this team in the wild card and keep some structure to an other wise unstable rotation. Clay is 4-1 in his last 6 games with a 3.00 ERA and 27 strikeouts. Not bad for someone who was 1-2 in his first 6 starts and ended up being demoted back to triple-A . He has been improving with every start and with the way the bats are playing he might get to 9 wins which would be a career high.

He was the 42 pick in the first round of the 2005 draft for the sox. He went 3-1 in 2007 which included a no hitter against the Baltimore Orioles in just his second start in the majors. The following year wasn’t so pleasant as he went 2-9 and I personally thought he got beat mentally.

He has shown that he is the future of the Red Sox even though he was in some of the Roy Halladay trade talks. I’m so glad we didn’t give into our panic and just give away some of our homegrown talent. Instead we our leaning on him to bring us to the playoffs this year and to keep this great team in the hunt for many more years to come.

Well, here is a copy of my post from earlier today

Well it is a very busy Sunday starting right now.

It will all begin with the opening of the Tennis French Open in minutes. Later today the battle at the Brickyard begins with Helio Castoneves leading the drivers from the pole. Then tonight under the lights at Lowe's Motor Speedway is the Coca-Cola 600, a long and grueling race that will probably include some rain delays.

My Picks:

Even though it isn't a shock in the first round - I pick Rafa Nadal. I can't wait to see who gets to face him in the finals next week. Can anyone stop him from winning his fifth title in a row at Roland Garros?

Also I think Safina will defend her #1 world ranking fiercely. Can she finally win that major title? I think she can, and where better than on the clay.

I am picking Castroneves to kiss the bricks for a third time. However I think Ryan Hunter Reay might have a chance, and Danica winning would be so huge.

As for NASCAR - I think Stewart-Haas Racing will score a win in a points race for the first time. I am thinking it will be Ryan Newman also from the pole, like Castroneves. However, Tony Stewart should be there fighting for the lead late. Other than that, as always you have to watch the other cars with those Hendrick motors in them.

For full details on all of those events and more please Click Here

In other events today:

Cleveland Cavaliers will win to take 2-1 series lead.
Detroit Red Wings will win to take 3-1 series lead.
MLB Inter-League Play:
Winners: Detroit, Yankees, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Boston, White Sox, Washington, Texas, St. Louis, Oakland, Cubs, Seattle, Dodgers, and Milwaukee

Let's also predict that Joel Pineiro will top both of the Card's previous two pitching gems. Todd Wellemeyer and the bullpen threw a five hitter on Friday, then Kyle Lohse and Chris Perez combined for another five hitter Saturday. I think Pineiro will toss a complete game shutout while giving up 3 or fewer hits.

---------------------
The Results:

Rafa and Safina actually didn't have a match today, but they both take center stage starting at 11AM local Paris time (4AM CT US).

As for the Indy 500, Helio Castroneves did indeed win for the third time to cap off an amazing return to racing after his tax evasion trial from just a couple weeks ago.
Click Here for full race details.

The Coca-Cola 600 was delayed due to rain. It is rescheduled for tomorrow. FOX coverage begins at Noon ET.

The Magic actually defeated the Cavaliers 99-89 on the strength of 24 points from Dwight Howard. The Magic lead the series 2-1.

The Red Wings blew out the Blackhawks 6-1 to put Chicago on the brink of elimination.

In a minute you will see the reason I stopped betting on Major League Baseball. Out of all my baseball picks here are the ones I got correct.
Washington, Texas, Oakland, and Seattle - the other 11 games I picked wrong.

Joel Pineiro's pitching outing was not so good. He gave up 3 earned runs on 8 hits and got the loss in the Cardinals 3-1 loss against the Royals.

So onto tomorrow we go. I am stil picking the Nuggets to win over the Lakers, to Natalina's shagrin. I am more curious to see where the game will be played. For those that don't know the Nuggets arena was leased out to the WWE for their Monday Night RAW event months ago. They didn't actually expect the team to make the playoffs and advance to the second round. So up until Thursday (the last time I checked) tickets were being sold for both events for Monday night. According to my DirecTV listing Raw says it will be from either the Staples Center in L.A. or the Pepsi Arena in Denver. If they talked Vince McMahon into moving to L.A. you can be sure it cost them a tidy little sum to get the deal done.

My picks for the Coca-Cola 600 remain intact. However, the entire race will be different due to running in the daytime. In the daytime I think Kasey Khane might have a bit more of a chance. Also this could be a huge plus for Jimmie Johnson. He and his team always adjust well during a race, and that is what everyone is going to need to do in the longest race on the NASCAR schedule in the heat of the day.

We will leave the baseball picks to Peter Gammons this time.

Baseball promotions and giveaways

May 23rd 2008 08:47
One of the many things I love about going to the ball park, besides the pure enjoyment of a baseball game, is the promotions. Dollar dogs, half-price beers, bobble heads, t-shirts, whatever.

Minor League games can offer some of the best, but the major leagues aren’t far behind sometimes. Some teams like the Boston Red Sox don’t offer anything. Don’t have to, Fenway will sell out
