Pro Sports Wrap - Sports Personality of the Day:Tony Romo

August 2010: Best Current NFL Players 11-23

August 19th 2010 14:28
11. Ray Rice- He is the best pass-catching receiver in the NFL, as well as being very fast and agile. Rice can also hold his own on the goal line. He reminds me of a Gore and DeAngelo hybrid.

12. Brandon Marshall- Athletically, Marshall is a specimen. He has the uncanny ability to get 100 catches each year, no matter the quarterback and receivers around him. Marshall is a supreme athlete, and there is no doubt about that.

13. Steve Smith CAR- The Panthers superstar is the most explosive and agile receiver in the league. He performs year in and year out, despite having no receiving weapons around him, no steady quarterback, and a definite run-first team. Smith gets yardage, burns you deep, and makes athletic grabs. In terms of raw skill, Smith is the best receiver in the NFL and the most daunting to guard. I am not the first one to rain down the compliments on such a talented player.

14. Jared Allen- I have to place him in the top 15. You can't be a big, top-flight pass rusher and not have your name in the top 15. That would be a disgrace. Allen disgraces quarterbacks, especially on his own turf. This is the center of the ferocious Minnesota defense.

15. Bob Sanders- Safeties are valuable chess pieces in football. They can terrorize both the run and passing game. Sanders is the most skilled of them all. Look past the injuries, he is a combination of hard-hitting and pass coverage that many have not seen in a while. Sanders is also a monster against the rush. Just ask Larry Johnson and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was the real reason why Peyton won a ring.

16. Frank Gore- Speed, wow-factor, and pass-catching. Frank Gore has it all. He is a remarkable back that should be the focal point of any offense using him. The injuries are there, but they aren't devastating injuries. He compares favorably with Brian Westbrook in his prime.

17. Chris Johnson- He is the most explosive player in the league. This guy embodies the symbol of a lightning bolt. You don't know where he will strike. When he does strike, you can't catch him.

18. DeAngelo Williams- Is a close second in explosiveness to Johnson. Williams is also stronger and a more polished wide receiver. However, Johnson is just too fast for eyes.

19. Tony Romo- He slips because there is a huge drop off between him and the top four quarterbacks. Romo is improving in his leadership year by year, and he is one of the better talents in the league overall.

20. Darrelle Revis- You want Darrelle, I'll give you him. Revis was incredible last year, shutting down players like Randy Moss and Steve Smith.

21. Patrick Willis- He is the best linebacker in the league. He raps up tackles like a machine. Willis is also dominate in pass coverage.

22. Jon Beason- Beason is just a minor step under Willis. Beaston- not a typo- is as great as a tackler but he has to step up his pass coverage a little bit more.

23. Elvis Dumervil- Outside pass rushers like Ware and Dumervil are invaluable in the league today.
