August 2010: Best Current NFL Players 1-10
August 18th 2010 17:07
1. Drew Brees- Quarterback is the most important position in the NFL. Brees is the best quarterback, therefore he is the best player.
2. Peyton Manning- Even at his age, he still keeps going on. Manning is not only the second best player today, but he is also one of the best players in history. That's obvious.
3. Adrian Peterson- Forget fantasy. This is real football. Adrian Peterson's physical play dominates defenses, even when they focus in on him. Even in a "down" year, Adrian continues to grind out yardage and touchdowns.
4. Andre Johnson- His height and speed combination is a nightmare for opposing defenses to deal with. Combine that with good hands and route-running, and you've got a monster.
5. Larry Fitzgerald- He is so tall and powerful and has great hands. Fitz is a burner that also has the grace to make incredible catches. His career is filled with highlight reel material.
6. DeMarcus Ware- Let's face it. In this league driven by quarterbacks, you have to stop the quarterback. Pass rushers terrorize quarterbacks. What could be a better choice than the best outside pass rusher in the league to a defense? Ware not only gets sacks, but he easies the pressure off his teammates by making defenses double team him, or force an extra receiver or tight end to block him. This opens the way for the other talent players on the team. Did I mention that quarterbacks throw interceptions when they are hurried? I didn't think i had to tell you that.
7. Maurice Jones-Drew- I know people are killing me for not ranking Chris Johnson yet. MJD is just way better. He is a three dimensional running back that is a good returner when asked to return, and a daunting weapon as a receiver.
8. Nnamdi Asomugha- Cornerbacks are almost as valuable as pass rushers. They shut down the best weapons that quarterbacks have. Forget Revis, he posted one incredible year with an incredible defense around him. Asomugha constantly shuts down the best receivers in the league even with no pass rush around him.
9. Tom Brady- Classic, old reliable. He's the guy that gets you wins, especially when you need them. If you don't put pressure on him, you have no chance at beating him. Just ask some great teams that Brady has thwarted in the playoffs.
10. Aaron Rodgers- I already think he is a Hall of Famer. The first time I saw him play, I knew he was going to be good. Rodgers is a natural quarterback. There is no other way to put it. He is accurate, mobile, and intelligent. He throws off defenses with beautiful play action passes. Some of his skills mirror Hall of Famers from the past.
