Adam ‘Don’t Call Me Pac-Man’ Jones gets Chomped by Commissioner Goddell AGAIN
Dallas Cowboy cornerback Adam Jones has been suspended indefinitely by NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell for the incident that took place last week. The suspension will last a minimum of four games, but could be much, much longer.
In a letter to Jones, Goddell wrote that the latest incident was a continuation of, “a disturbing pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL.”
The incident in question happened at an upscale Dallas hotel where Jones was involved in an alcohol related incident with one of his four team assigned bodyguards during a private party one week ago.
The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones came out to say the team would be taking no disciplinary action earlier in the week.
Jerry Jones while at an NFL meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida spoke on the matter saying he had talked to Adam, and said he was “devastated” after hearing the news. Jerry also said in a letter released by the team, “We respect and support the decision of the commissioner. . . I regret that the issue has brought negative attention to the Cowboys and the NFL.” He also said in an interview, “We move forward with a very clear knowledge as to what the process will be for a possible reinstatement. Adam is well aware of where he stands and what he has to do.”
The league also released a statement that basically said that Jones’s future reinstatement will depend on strict compliance with the NFL and Cowboys treatment plans and an evaluation by “clinical experts.”
My first question is, why did Goddell NOT include that stipulation the last time? All of his problems have been in some way alcohol related. Why did the commissioner not feel it was needed before?
This comes on the heels of finding out that Tony Romo has a broken pinky finger and should miss about 4 weeks; rookie running back Felix Jones is out for 2-4 weeks with a partial tear of his hamstring; and that star cornerback Terrence Newman is also out for about 4 more weeks to have surgery to repair a sports hernia.
The Cowboys are also 4-2 now after an overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Luckily both the Giants and Redskins dropped games they should have won this week to make it a three-way tie atop the NFC East.
More news on the Cowboys in just a little bit. . .
