2010 World Series Preview

I was wrong, twice. Most people were wrong at least once. The San Francisco Giants somehow overcame the Phils in only 6 games. The same can be said about the Texas Rangers, but their victory wasn't surprising. This preview looks at both teams' players as a head-to-head matchup.
The Rangers have a solid rotation that features Cliff Lee. Colby Lewis and CJ Wilson are both pretty good, but I think that Tommy Hunter is a weak link. Tim Lincecum is the best pitcher in the league- in my mind. Matt Cain is very good and Sanchez and Bumgarner are good at the 3 and 4 slots. I think that San Francisco have the better rotation.
Neftali Feliz broke the single-season rookie saves record this year, but Brian Wilson is one of the top five closers in the league. Jeremy Affeldt is an underrated set-up man. Derek Holland, Darren Oliver, and Darren O'Day combine to make a fearsome trio to set-up Feliz. The Giants have solid relievers like Javier Lopez to help out Wilson. I am going to give a tie to both bullpens.
I believe that Aubrey Huff is a better player than Jorge Cantu. As much as I love Freddy Sanchez, Ian Kinsler is one of the best second basemen in the MLB. Edgar Renteria is a poor player at this stage of his career and is nothing close to Rangers star Elvis Andrus. Michael Young draws with the combination of Pablo Sandoval and Juan Uribe. It is a tie only because Uribe has been on fire. The playoffs are about streaks.
Josh Hamilton easily upends Andres Torres, as good as Torres may be. Hamilton is one of the best players in the game. Julio Borbon cannot beat the streaking Cody Ross. After all, Ross was the NLCS MVP. Nelson Cruz is much better than Nate Schierholtz. That comparison is not even close.
I believe that the Rangers are a more skilled team. They stuck through and beat the best two teams record-wise this year- the Yanks and Rays. The Giants have incredible pitching, but they got to the World Series from a hot-streaking offense. The Giants pitching will win them two games, but the Rangers are too good to lose. I predict that the Rangers will win in 6 games.
The MVP will be Cliff Lee.
